WATA 2004









The Ph.D. programme of the Faculty of Computer Science of the Dresden University of Technology will organize a workshop on


Weighted Automata: Theory and Applications


from June 1 - 5, 2004,
in Dresden, Germany


The workshop should cover all aspects of weighted automata, ranging from the theory of formal power series to max-plus-algebra and applications e.g. in digital image processing or algebraic optimization of networks. The aim is to present tutorials and survey lectures by outstanding scientists in this area. Moreover, we encourage everybody to participate in this workshop and present their own technical contribution in this area.

All lecturers are asked to give a survey on their field of interest followed by recent research results.

Call for Participation:

Interested participants are most welcome. If you wish to present a technical contribution, please send us an abstract (preferably of at most one page) before February 15, 2004. Authors will be informed about acceptance of their submission before March 15, 2004.


Registration:

Deadline for registration is April 1, 2004. There are no conference fees.

In order to register, please send your name, affiliation, e-mail, intended length of participation to achtruth@tcs.inf.tu-dresden.de and state if you want to participate at the excursion (for free) and/or conference dinner (not for free) or not.


Call for Papers:

There will be a special issue of the Journal of Automata, Languages, and Combinatorics (JALC) on the topic of this workshop. The deadline for submission of papers is July 15, 2004. Informal get together, Excursion, and Conference Dinner:

On Monday, May 31st, we will meet informally at 8.00 pm in the restaurant of the Guesthouse "Am Weberplatz",
for Thursday afternoon, June 3rd, we plan an excursion (for free), and
for Friday, June 4th, in the evening we plan a conference dinner (not for free).

Further information will be announced at the conference.


Conference location:

Dresden University of Technology, "von-Gerber-Bau", Bergstraße 53, room 038. Registration will be in room 039.


Accomodation:

We have reserved in the guesthouse "Am Weberplatz" for all invited speakers and further participants a limited number of rooms at an inexpensive rate. To obtain these rooms, we ask the "further participants" (participants with technical contributions or without) to register directly at the guesthouse before March 3, 2004 mentioning "WATA". The rooms will be assigned on a first come - first serve basis.
If you are a late arriver please mention this too. All prices include breakfast and taxes.
