Greetings from Leipzig Lutz Maicher ======================================================== Topic maps-based semblogging: Use your free account for testing the research prototype semblog-tm ======================================================== Have you ever wished adding more than simple tags to your blog posts? Then you may want to learn about semblog-tm, the topic maps-based semblogging system developed at the Department of Information Systems and Information Management of University of Cologne, which will be demonstrated [1] at TMRA 2006 on Wednesday 2006-10-11. Enhance your blog entries with semantic tags (semtags), connected by semantic associations. Define your own semtags and share them with others. Query across aggregated blogs. As a registered TMRA06 participant, you can try out the system yourself with a free test account. (see details below). Note that this is a research prototype running on a tiny university server, so there may be occasional load problems or short downtimes. Should you need assistance, or have any questions, please contact Alexander Sigel [2]. Lars Bünten and Alexander Sigel are looking forward to meet you at TMRA06 and discuss semblogging-related ideas. How can I log into the system? ============================== Access your blog ---------------- Find out which is your blog : * Let be your lastname in lowercase. * If you have special characters in your name, convert them to the ASCII transcription. (e.g. ü -> ue, ß -> ss) * If you have spaces in your name, replace them by underscore (_) * Leave hypens in your name intact * If your lastname is Newcomb, use newcomb_s or newcomb_v Access your blog at http://semblog.wim.uni-koeln.de/blojsom/blog/ replacing with your as above Immediately change your password -------------------------------- Go to "Links" (on the right hand side) and select "Administration" Enter as username the , and as initial password "tmra06". Please change your password after having logged in the first time: "Weblog Settings" tab > "Authorization" subtab. In the middle section, "modify an existing authorized user to the current blog": select your username and enter your NEW password details twice. Click the "modify authorized user" button. To test, you may want to log out and in again. Change other settings (optional) -------------------------------- If you like, you can also change some "Weblog Settings" > "Weblog Properties" (blog name, blog description, blog owner, blog owner email). What can I do with semblog-tm? ============================== 1. Add a conventional blog entry with blojsom --------------------------------------------- Entries > Add Entry > Add blog entry 2. Display your blog entry -------------------------- Follow the link to the blog entry 3. Attach semantics to your blog entry -------------------------------------- Follow the link "Edit" (in "has the following semantics") 3.1 Use existing semtags ------------------------ Mark an existing semtag(s) (in: "all semtags") Copy to your view (into available semtags) Mark semtags(s) (in available semtags) you wish to add to your blog entry Save Display blog 3.2 Define your own semtags --------------------------- "Edit" semantics Add new Fill out the form (topic name, sort name and human description) Leave the PSI field blank and have the PSI service automatically create one (except you already know an existing PSI for this subject and which to associate it with this semtag) 4. Associate two semtags ------------------------ Follow the link to a semtag (open the first semtag) "Associate this topic with another topic" Select the user from which you wish to choose semtags from Mark the second semtag Select the corresponding association type (Read: The assocation type as seen in the scope of the first semtag) Save 5. Query semtags ---------------- Main page of your blog Query own server (all semblog entries with semtags by sembloggers on this server) Query all known servers (the same result, since for load reasons on this machine only one server is running) 6. Export XTM ------------- Export the topic maps in .xtm format If you are very curious, you can download a 16 minute demonstration video including a transcript (32 MB) [3] [1] http://www.informatik.uni-leipzig.de/~tmra/2006/ta.html#C1 [2] mailto:semblog@asigel.de [3] Sigel, A., & Bünten, L.
