I was born on 26 April 1973 in Leipzig, Germany. After two years attending special classes for mathematics and physics at the Martin Luther University Halle/Wittenberg I studied computer science at the University of Leipzig. I graduated in 1997 with a German Diplom (comparable to MS). From 1997 to 1999 I worked for an IT consultancy on several industry projects focusing on network planning and management. In 2000 I served an 11 month compulsory service at a social organisation. From February 2001 to March 2002 I was working as a data networking researcher at the Computer Science Department of the University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand. Since April 2002 I've been working as a research assistant at the University of Leipzig, Department of Computer Science. I have spent the summers of 2003 and 2004 as a visiting researcher at the San Diego Supercomputer Center at UCSD collaborating with NLANR's PMA project.
